Pontefract House fire.
Police Officers along with the West Yorkshire Fire Service attended a house fire at an address in Pontefract. An elderly couple had a lucky escape; local Fire Officers took the elderly people from their home with minor injuries. It seems that the cause of the fire could well have been an electric blanket. We cannot stress enough to make sure that the blankets are serviced frequently and kept in good condition.

Cannabis Factory Found in Castleford.
Local NPT Police Officers raided an address in Saville Road, Castleford and found a large number of cannabis plants growing. The Officers from the Normanton and Featherstone Neighbourhood Police team. Enquiries are ongoing. More Cannabis success in Castleford.
A Cannabis farm has been discovered on Perseverance Street. Officers could smell cannabis in the area so followed their nose's and knocked on the door of the house where the smell seemed to emanate from. The suspect answered the door and invited the Officers inside. He showed the Officers to the growing site and admitted that the cannabis farm was his. A total of 10 fully grown plants were seized and a further 11 in various states of growth were destroyed. The hydroponics used to grow the plants was dismantled and taken away.

Wakefield City Centre disorder reduced.
A crime fighting initiative drove down disorder in Wakefield city centre during the festive period. Latest figures show a thirty seven per cent reduction in violent crime – 19 fewer assaults than during the same period the previous year. The operation has been such a success that it will continue throughout the year.
Inspector Richard Close, of Wakefield Central Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This is a real result my team worked hard in the freezing temperatures to ensure that everything ran smoothly. The initiative will continue throughout 2010 providing a safe environment for our visitors"

New Team Hits Wakefield Rural Streets
Anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related disorder will be tackled by a new team operating in Wakefield.
Wakefield Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team has joined forces with Wakefield Council's youth workers and NACRO to form a new team under the Streetsafe Project. Areas will be identified where youths gather or cause a nuisance and the special team will be drafted in to patrol the area. Police and youth
workers will speak to the youngsters and make them aware of activities and facilities available to them.
Road and Traffic Issues
20/01/10 Pontefract
Wakefield District Roads Policing Officers arrested two males on suspicion of drink driving following a road traffic collision shortly before 3:00am on Wednesday 20th January 2010 near to the circle Chequerfield, Pontefract. The incident brought a number of local residents out into the street as one of the males had run off to a nearby flat where he was subsequently arrested.
15/01/10 Wood Lane Durker Speeding
After receiving complaints from the public officers have been out doing speeding checks. Three vehicles have been issued with fixed penalty notices; another vehicle was followed and pulled in for driving in excess of 70mph. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Wood Street Police station where he was given a blood test. He tested positive and was charged with over prescribed limit (OPL) and exceeding the 30mph limit.
