A CITY boss has spoken of the moment it dawned on him his employee may have been connected with the abduction and death of Stephanie Hammill.
Jim Boucher, the managing director of TQ Environmental, told Sheffield Crown Court yesterday, how his engineer Ioannis Revenikiotis had 'disappeared off the face of the earth' in January 2004. Miss Hammill died in Batley Road on November 29, 2003.
Mr Boucher told the jury: "There was a lot of media coverage, there were posters, it was on the news and on the radio. I drove past the scene of the incident every day on my way to work."
Mr Boucher said Revenikiotis was a hard working engineer and was being tipped for promotion. He explained Revenikiotis flew to South Korea on a pre-arranged business trip 10 hours after Miss Hammill's death.
He was due to fly back to the UK before Christmas 2003 but was keen to stay on in South East Asia.
On December 19 2003, Revenikiotis returned home and the next day told Mr Boucher he needed to return to Greece because his mother was ill and asked for a cash loan. But Revenikiotis embarked on a three-day road trip with his mum and dad in his black Mercedes back to Greece.
Mr Boucher said he was surprised when Revenikiotis became aggressive towards him when calling from Greece. He checked the date of the Miss Hammill incident, and realised Revenikiotis had been in this country on that day.
At 9.30am on January 12, Mr Boucher gave police a schedule of Revenikiotis's movements.
Revenikiotis, 29, formerly of School Crescent, Dewsbury, denies abducting and killing 20 year-old Miss Hammill.
Miss Hammill was on a night out with her fiancé James Garland.
As they walked to the home they shared, on Lincoln Street, she got into a car she thought was a taxi on Balne Lane. Mr Garland was left behind and minutes later Miss Hammill was found dead in the middle of Batley Road.
It is alleged she either jumped or fell from Revenikiotis's moving Mercedes, fearing she was going to be sexually assaulted.
She had been run over by a genuine taxi coming in the other direction.
Trial contiunes.
