A FASHION stylist has left no flea market unturned in her quest to open Wakefield's first vintage shop.
Hudson and Miller is the brainchild of Normanton stylist Sheli Hudson, who noticed a gap in the market for stores specialising in clothing and accessories from the past.

Tomorrow the boutique, which specialises in sourcing top-quality retro originals, stocking everything from classic cocktail dresses to trashy 80s T-shirts – for both men and women – opens on Teall Street in the city centre.

Miss Hudson, 21, said: “I have been collecting vintage pieces for five or six years and suddenly found myself with enough to stock a shop so I thought, why not? At the moment if you want vintage fashion you have to travel to Leeds, which is a real shame.

“The shop is unique, it specialises in American retro T-shirts for men and women’s vintage shoes – we have one of the biggest collections in the North.”

Miss Hudson scours the country at classic fashion hotspots such as London’s Portobello Market for her stock.

And she has developed a large trusted newtork of contacts who she can ask to look out for key pieces. This has led to her creating a ‘wish list’ on her website, which allows people to request certain items.

Miss Hudson said: “The attraction with vintage is that you’re not going to walk down the street seeing someone wearing the same thing as you are.

“More and more people are picking up on it. The response we’ve had so far, when we’ve been setting up the shop, has been brilliant.”

Hudson and Miller opens tomorrow.

To mark the launch, all customers will receive a 10 per cent discount card as well as free champagne.
