A SWEDISH bank with a unique face-to-face approach for customers is attracting trade from its new home at Wakefield's Calder Business Park.
Handelsbanken opened last month and has already won custom from five neighbouring businesses at the park.

And as part of its ongoing expansion, the bank has announced two new appointments to its specialist team.

Alan Hind and Melanie Barraclough, who have a combined experience of 40 years, have joined the firm as individual banking managers.

Branch manager Steve Passey said nervousness among lenders because of the recent credit squeeze created opportunities for a bank with such a personal approach.

He said: “I think people have been intrigued by a Swedish bank opening on their doorstep.

“By basing our decisions on local conditions and our customers’ personal circumstances rather than a ‘tick box’ system, we can provide lending on the larger and less straightforward deals that traditional high street banks are turning down.”
