STUDENTS and staff at Wakefield College are celebrating reaching a milestone with their business-based learners.
Jo Wood, who works at Pinderfields Hospital, is the college’s 1,000th Train to Gain student, after starting an NVQ level 3 in customer service.
Train to Gain is a government-backed initiative run by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), designed
to help businesses get the training they need to improve productivity and competitiveness.
Mrs Wood, a fast track and rapid access co-ordinator, said: “The customer service NVQ means that I’m gaining a qualification while I’m actually working, which is great for me.”
John Turner, Train to Gain manager at Wakefield College, said: “The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust has taken advantage of the whole Train to Gain Service by offering NVQs in lots of different areas.
“Staff have completed NVQs in business administration, customer service, professional cookery and literacy and numeracy, as well as in specialist care and nursing.
“Any business, no matter what the number of employees, whether it’s one or 1,000, can access funding through the Train to Gain service. Volunteers and self-employed people can also now achieve a qualification fully-funded through Train to Gain.”
