A NEW hotel is giving Wakefield's Theatre Royal a hand to improve its community work.
Village Hotel and Leisure has given a cash donation to the Westgate theatre creative engagement programme to continue community programmes like the current production of Boogie Nights.
The smash 70s-style musical has a cast of about 60 Wakefield teenagers aged between 14 and 18.
Paul Harrison, meetings and events manager at the hotel, on Capitol Park West, by M62 junction 28, donated the cash and watched a matinee performance.
He said: “It’s fantastic to be able to help Theatre Royal Wakefield continue its work with the local community. The team here provides a fantastic, valuable service which many are not aware of – and today’s performance is certainly testament to their commitment to the region.”
Jude Wright, head of creative engagement at the theatre, said: “I would like to thank the Village for their generous donation – it’s great to see local businesses getting to grass roots level with the local community. This cash will be used to help other young people from the area like the cast of Boogie Nights. We welcome all those from the Wakefield district to audition for our productions and we’re delighted to be able to work alongside so many talented arts performers and musicians – Wakefield certainly has got talent.”
