ACCOUNTANTS are bracing themselves for changes in the way they work.
Businesses are now dealing with new rules added to the Companies Act 2006 – some of which only apply to private, as opposed to public, companies.
Angela Riley, president of the West Yorkshire Society of Chartered Accountants, said at present private companies have 10 months from the end of their annual accounting period to file their accounts wih Companies House.
She added: “This period will reduce to nine months for accounting periods beginning on and after April 6.
“The post of company secretary will be optional for private companies from April 6. Secretaries currently in place may resign from that date and need not be replaced.
“Nevertheless, all the Companies House documents they currently deal with still have to be completed and filed.
“This change will make it easier for one person to run his or her company alone.”
