THE latest signing to the Emmerdale All Stars football team is looking for city businesses to sponsor the players for next season's charity games.
Wakefield police officer Mick Amos has joined the ranks of the soap star footballers after he joined the long-running drama as an extra 18 months ago, playing a police officer.

Since then he was been involved in storylines involving the King murder and the arrest of Bob Hope, which was screened earlier this week on ITV 1.

And as the All Stars are about to head out across the country to play 16 fundraising games, PC Amos hopes a backer from his home city will stump up the £15,000 needed to sponsor the team.

Last season the Emmerdale footballers raised £150,000 for various charities including Make A Wish, Leukaemia Research, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Children in Need.

Youth and schools officer PC Amos was also heavily involved in a massive fundraising effort to send five-year-old Brennan Rooney, the son of Wildcats star Jamie Rooney, for pioneering treatment.

The youngster, who suffers from cerebral palsy, needed treatment to give him a chance at walking.

PC Amos said: “It is a joy to be playing the game I love to help raise money for a variety of different charities and causes.”

Any potential sponsor would have their names emblazoned on the team shirts and at the end of the season any money left over would be given to a charity.

On Saturday, July 26, the All Stars will play in the city to raise money for Wakefield Hospice.

Last season the team, which features stars from Emmerdale, Casualty and Shameless, played at Wembley, as well as taking part in the memorial game for England World Cup winning legend Alan Ball.

Former England Internationals often turn out to play against the All Stars as well as other high profile celebrities.

Anyone interested in sponsoring the team or helping to raise money for charity should contact PC Amos on 07747 168024 or mm105@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
