Morrisons in Wakefield has launched its 2008 charity of the year campaign, to help combat abuse and neglect among children and the elderly.
Morrisons has joined Help the Aged and ChildLine to raise £1.5 million for its nationwide campaign.
John Daniels, store manager at the Ridings Morrisons, said: “We’re really happy to be working for such a great cause. Our choice for charity of the
year has generated great sympathy from our colleagues.”
Under the theme of ‘protecting generations for generations’, Morrisons hopes to raise public awareness about the frequent mistreatment of two of the most vulnerable groups in society.
Research shows that nearly 32,000 children, and half-a-million older people, are known to be at risk of abuse in the UK at any one time.
Esther Rantzen, president and founder of ChildLine and ambassador for Help the Aged, said: “I am delighted that Morrisons has chosen ChildLine and Help the Aged as its joint charity partners.
“With the support of Morrisons, ChildLine and Help the Aged will be able to help thousands of children and older people who may be in pain or distress.”
The unique partnership, which lasts until the end of the year, will raise funds for increased awareness and training for volunteer counsellors.
