A NEW female-only gym which will be the first in Wakefield to offer strict 30-minute workouts is set to break down barriers for women who want to get fit.
Ladyzone, which opened this week on Kirkgate, is aiming to break away from traditional ideas about gyms, which some people can find intimidating.

Supervised by qualified trainers, users will be guided around a 10-stage circuit-based workout with a unique ‘traffic light’ system.

Resistance levels on the fitness machines can be set by the user at the push of a button.

And the gym’s appointment system also means no-one will have to wait to use equipment.

Owner Anthony Carpenter said: “This is the solution women are looking for. Statistics show 89 per cent of people are not a member of a fitness centre and many people who are members of a gym just don’t go.”

There are no saunas, steam rooms or cafes at Ladyzone, where rates priced between £22 and £28 per month, about half the price of attending a normal gym.

Mr Carpenter said: “This is a completely different type of gym which people can use and enjoy.

“Our system means nobody will waste their time waiting around and will see real results rather than trying to get a quick fix.”

The opening comes just weeks after the closure of a female-only fitness centre in the city which was used by many elderly and vulnerable women.

The Motorcise Centre, on Borough Road, Wakefield, closed on May 30 after it went bust.

Its assets were taken over by Energie Fitness for Women, which was seeking alternative premises in the city.
