A SPORTSWEAR manufacturer, which has a history of more than 100 years in the heart of the city, is being kitted out with a new base.
Prostar will be moving to new premises on the Wakefield 41 business park this spring after more than a century at their Denby Dale Road site.

The company were keen to move into bigger premises, but wanted to remain in the Wakefield area and the 67
,000 sq ft facility will be given a £1m refurbishment before they move in.

Larger offices and more warehouse space will mean Prostar will be able to have a dedicated showroom for their products.

Managing director, Doug Bedford, said: “The company’s roots and history lay in Wakefield so it was important to everyone at Prostar that we remain in the area. The location on Wakefield 41 estate is ideal for us as, not only does the facility have the space we need, it’s also close to vital transport links.”

Prostar, which has been designing and producing sports clothing in the city since 1901, recently created the new World Cup kit for the Turks and Caicos Islands football team.

The bright turquoise shirts will be worn by players hoping to qualify for the tournament in South Africa in 2010.

Shane Bray, sales and marketing director of Prostar, said: “We are constantly adding to our ranges of teamwear and training wear and plan to continue expanding the business to cater for all sports. It was felt that larger premises were needed in order for Prostar to develop effectively.”

Mr Bedford said: “We were keen to stay in the Wakefield area, and having considered various options in the locality, decided this unit best met our requirements.

“We are excited about relocating the business to the new facility and expect it to enable us to grow the business in the years ahead.”
