ALVERTHORPE BOARD SCHOOL BUILDING: Following the reprieve until March 2009 regarding making a decision about the future of this site, no action seems to have been forthcoming. Clearly, a steering committee is needed to establish whether the building/site can be used for any purpose under its charter and establish ownership and any lease agreements, so that potential agreements regarding its use and whether funding can be obtained to upgrade also establish potential lease costing for future use. Existing users will need to establish whether they wish to continue to use the premises and anyone else who may consider upgrading premises suitable for their needs, such as youth organisations, senior citizen organisations, village drop by coffee shop, music groups rehearsal space, computer groups or other community groups. Hopefully, the community association will appeal to the whole of the community of Alverthorpe and Flanshaw to take part in seeking a way forwards, but if they are unable to take the matter forwards in the next 12 months then individuals are ready to do so. Flanshaw was originally a hamlet on the fringe of Alverthorpe and its children could have been educated at the Board School so Flanshaw groups are also welcome to submit
proposals.

ST PAUL'S CHURCH: This Sunday a special Whitsuntide service at 9.45am will be led by the Rev Meuryn Walker, who will also be preaching. On Monday, the newly-elected Parochial Church Council will hold its first meeting in church and Christine Chell, headmistress of St Paul's C of E Voluntary Aided J&I School, will be attending to give a report about the school, its premises and its future plans. The social committee will meet on Wednesday, May 14 to discuss plans for the garden party to be held in the vicarage grounds on Saturday, May 31 when the whole village and parish will be welcome, and also the visit of the Clifton Handbell Ringers, who will be performing in church on Wednesday, June 11 when again everyone is welcome.

FLANSHAW URC: There will be a coffee hour at Flanshaw United Reformed Church tomorrow at 10.30am and the proceeds will be for Christian Aid. The service at 10.30am on Sunday will be led by the Rev Sue Macbeth. All welcome.

LINDALE METHODISTS: The service at Lindale Methodist Church on Sunday morning will be led by the Rev Tony Jones and will take the form of all-age worship. Rev Jones will also lead the evening service, which will include music from the Taize community.

RE-CONNECT: Next Thursday's coffee morning at Balne Lane Community Centre at 9.30am will include a quiz, as well as the usual, bingo, raffle and refreshments. If you are an older person living in west Wakefield and would appreciate some company with people of a similar age you would be made most welcome.
