HEALTHY HAPPY WOMEN: Horbury Community Centre held its first 'Health Happy Women' event last Saturday. Ladies attending the event had the chance to join in very relaxing taster sessions of yoga, Tai-chi and bellydancing, plus contribute to artwork, have a massage or talk to professionals about their health. Complementary therapies including reflexology and massage were available along with a buffet of healthy food.

QUARRY: Host Pat welcomes guests old and new to the Quarry Inn, Horbury and runs regular events throughout the week including Sunday evenings music quiz and a Poker tournament on Wednesdays. Musicians and singers are invited to perform at the open mic night on Thursdays and karaoke rounds of the week on Saturdays, lead by popular vocalist Simina.

CRICKET: Following the success of the fun auction night and sponsored walk in aid of the charity My Mum Mary fundraising continues with a fun cricket match this Sunday as Horbury Bridge take on Middlestown at Horbury Bridge Cricket field from 1pm.

AIR AMBULANCE: The Kings Arms, Twitch Hill are running a charity fundraising day on Sunday, August 29 in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Events kick off at 9am to noon with a car boot sale. Cars cost £4 per car and booking is preferred. There will be a bouncy castle and slide, hook-a-duck, tombola and lots of other stalls, plus live music outdoors from noon until 6pm. A children's entertainer will be putting on a show inside the pub from 6-7pm followed by a charity auction compared by a local sporting celebrity, with karaoke to finish. Anyone wishing to contribute or book a pitch for the car boot can call on 01924 261276 / 07983 153514.

SHEPS: The Shepherd's Arms are holding a live outdoor music event on Monday, August 30 from 1-9pm. The bands are Astrocircus, Seismic Shock, Watershed, Three Piece Sweet, Steamroller and The Cheats (featuring Jez Howard from Snapp.)

TIP: Many people in Horbury make use of the public tip in Ossett, the future of which is now in doubt. If you would like to have your say please go along to an open meeting on Thursday, September 2 at 7pm in Ossett Town Hall.

OVER 50s: On the 18th August Netherton Over 50s Club celebrated its 15th birthday with a party in Netherton Village Hall. About 50 guests and members enjoyed a buffet meal followed by entertainment by The Sisters in Harmony. A celebration cake made by Shirley Wall of Overton was cut by Maureen Goldthorpe and Evelyn Haward who first started the club. They were presented with bouquets of flowers. The club is now run by a small committee who try to keep to the format of the earlier years and hope to continue to do so for the foreseeable future. New members are always made most welcome.
