COFFEE CLUB: There will be a presentation by a representative from the Holiday Inn at this morning's coffee club organised by Re-Connect. The coffee club is held at West Wakefield Methodist Church, Thornes Road every Friday morning. Next week's coffee club will include a quiz.
COFFEE MORNING: The Wakefield Branch of the RNLI will be holding a coffee morning tomorrow from 10am to 12.30pm at Treacy Hall, Wakefield. There will be the usual stalls, tombola, cake and souvenirs and the cost is just 60p, which includes tea or coffee and biscuits. All the proceeds will help save lives at sea.
POLICE AND RESIDENTS' MEETING: The police hold regular meetings with the residents of Lupset, Thornes, Lawefield Lane and Flanshaw. This exchange of information ensures that the police can deal with issues that matter to local residents and this can result in a reduction in local crime and disorder. These meetings give residents a chance to meet the community police teams for the area and also local councillors. The next meeting will be held at 7pm on Monday, May 12 at Jubilee Hall, Lupset.
HOSPICE: The Lupset and Thornes Fundraising Group is holding a beetle drive on Friday, May 16 at West Wakefield Methodist Church, Thornes Road, starting at 6.30pm. Admission is £1.50, including refreshments.
THANK YOU: A recent bucket collection at Sainsbury's, organised by the Lupset and Thornes Fundraising Group for Wakefield Hospice, raised £800 and the group wants to thank the store and all who contributed.
WEST WAKEFIELD METHODIST CHURCH: The junior church has been preparing to take part in its anniversary service at 10am on Sunday, which will be led by John Hayes. Dr E Peter Muir is the preacher at 6 pm. Sunday is also the start of Christian Aid Week and members of the church will be delivering and collecting the special Christian Aid red envelopes in the area during the week. The speaker at the Christian endeavour meeting on Tuesday at 7.30pm is Doreen Abson. The Rev Trevor Grewcock, from Ossett, is the speaker at the Women's Fellowship at 2.30pm on Wednesday. The annual Joseph Winter Lecture given by Angela Tilby, theologian and broadcaster, takes place on Thursday at 7.30pm. Her subject is 'Deadly Sin – A Theme and Variations in Early Christianity'.
