NETHERTON O / 50s: The club celebrated its 15th birthday with a party at Netherton Village Hall. Lesley Wackett gave a brief history of the club which had grown from an idea by two ladies, Maureen Goldthorpe and Evelyn Howard. After a buffet meal members were entertained by Sisters in Harmony, with songs, poems, stories and a quiz. In spite of a piano which was missing some key notes they carried on gamely. Sisters in Harmony, based in Leeds, raise money for the Lazaruss Girls'Home in the West Bank of Palestine. Last year they raised approximately £10,000. The O / 50s trip next month to the Blackpool Illuminations is fully booked and the next meeting at Netherton Village Hall will be on October 13, when The Wayfarers are the entertainers.
