COFFEE MORNING: The community centre will host a coffee morning tomorrow, July 4, at 10am in Sharlston Community Centre. All the usual stalls. Everyone welcome. Proceeds in aid of community centre funds.
SHARLSTON ROVERS ARLFC: The committee of Sharlston Rovers would like to thank everyone who turned up to support them in their new venture in opening the old club as their new headquarters. Hopefully some of the old members will come and join the committee to help run the club as it was before they ran into trouble. It is hoped to put on entertainment as before, also bingo, ladies' nights etc. The Yogs, who are a charity band raising money for Cancer Research, will be on this Saturday. There will be raffle prizes etc. Come along and support Sharlston Rovers and Cancer Research.
MOBILE LIBRARY: The mobile library visits Sharlston at the following times: Tuesday 9.30am-9.50am at Southfield Road weekly, Tuesday 5.45pm-6.30pm at the Community Centre weekly and Thursday 3.10pm-3.40pm at Netheroyd Court fortnightly. For more information, call 01924 302241, leave a message and someone will get back to you.
ALVERTHORPE JUNIORS: Urgently require players aged seven to 16 to join the club in preparation for next season. If you are interested, please call Sarah on 07912 680147.
PARISH COUNCIL UPDATE: Councillors were saddened to hear some youths have been harassing an 80-year-old lady. This is not the first time this elderly lady has had her life made miserable by young people. Two of the youths have been identified and the youth worker, who knows them, is to intervene to get this behaviour stopped. The library bus and its availability was discussed. It was generally felt that the service was poor and cut out many of the people within the parish. The bus parks in Eastville Road, the community centre and Netheroyd Court. There is no provision for New Sharlston.
PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: The next meeting of Sharlston Parish Council will take place on Monday, July 6, at 7pm in Sharlston Community School. A full agenda is on the post office notice board.
GOSSIP FROM THE POST OFFICE: Big J has recently come out of hospital with tales to tell. The story goes that a woman with a Scottish accent kept trying to get into bed with him. Now was Big J having hallucinations or was this woman blind?
