Buses not following the code

TOP marks to Mr Powell in respect of the Highway Code rule regarding the correct way to negotiate a roundabout.

However, there seems to be a different interpretation of the rule according to the management of Arriva Yorkshire, who have instructed all their drivers to take the outside lane at Wilkinson's roundabout going out of town.

The reason given (don't laugh) is that they may have to stop at Brunswick Street.

They don't realise that if they take the correct way around, they are automatically in the correct position approaching the bus stop.

What amazes me is the fact that buses will queue in front of Wilkinson's, sometimes three at a time, when with a small adjustment of the steering wheel (power steering) they could be on their way.

I have a letter from Arriva dated June 25, 2007, confirming the details.

RC Carter,
