Cabinet will fight to save post offices
I felt compelled to respond to E Brummit's letter on the proposed closure of Bradford Road Post Office, published on the letters page Friday, May 23
Wakefield Council is strongly opposed to all the proposed closures, and councillors are aware of the huge impact they would have on our
communities.
At the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, May 27, cabinet members resolved to do all we can to oppose the closures and to voice our grave concerns to the government and Post Office Ltd.
While Wakefield Council cannot take a decision on the closures, we are working with local members and residents in the affected areas, to make sure everyone has the opportunity to respond to the consultation.
We have also arranged a special meeting with Postwatch and Post Office Ltd to talk through the concerns we have and the needs of all those who use the service.
We will not sit back and accept these proposed closures, but will fight to represent the views of all our residents.
