Dreadful waste of our gas
WHAT is going on at Welbeck?
It is 10 years since Wakefield Council gave permission for a gas utilisation plant to be built at the landfill site, and by 2005 there was enough gas coming off the site to fully utilise the gas for a power plant – yet we are now told that no such power plant will be built until 2009!
Every local authority in England would love to have a power plant that could provide free gas for 8,000 homes, but Wakefield Council and the Environment Agency have allowed gas to be flared off into the atmosphere for more than three years without enforcing planning permission, which states such a plant must be built.
Who is going to compensate the ratepayers of Wakefield for this dreadful waste of our gas, and why did Paul Dainton have to obtain this information through the freedom of information act?
The public have a right to know why such an issue as this has not been made public before Mr Dainton published this outrage. He should be compensated for his costs, efforts, and jailing, for bringing this issue to the public's attention.
