It is a credit to the city

Having not been into Wakefield centre for several months I was pleasantly surprised on how tidy it looked when I visited this week.

The main shopping precinct and the Bull Ring are a credit to the city which will hopefully be enhanced by the addition of Trinity Walk when completed. The creation of the Bull Ring square looked very European (like a Spanish or French Square) in the sunlight with plenty of people using the open spaces which have been further enhanced by a number of refurbished shop fronts.

I was also impressed by the new food market hall and the indoor market. Markets are central to the survival of any town centre and its good to see there will be a direct link between the market and Trinity Walk, however Wakefield should have a town centre management team comprising local business owners to maximise the potential and advertise what's on offer.

It's easy to become blinkered to what's in front of you but with the outstanding and striking gallery being completed on the banks of the Calder and the additions to what the city centre has to offer shows the future can look good for Wakefield town centre.

A happy visitor!
