Poor state of charity shop
FOLLOWING the publication of people's views regarding the Wakefield Hospice shops recently, I wish to add mine.
Today I visited the Wakefield Hospice depot store, and what a disappointing trip it was!
I firmly believe that hospices are worth a lot and deserve all the fundraising they can get, but the Wakefield Hospice shops are letting the hospice down.
The depot shop contained only extremely overpriced items – many of them no doubt costing more than they would new, and certainly more than they would to buy second hand elsewhere.
Forgive me if I am wrong, but is the idea of a charity shop not only to fundraise, but also to allow its customers to buy goods that they might otherwise be unable to afford?
I even plucked up the courage to query the price of something and, while the volunteer was apologetic and polite, the manageress was extremely blunt.
The Salvation Army store in Outwood is much better, with realistic pricing, and therefore a lot of customers, as well as a huge amount of good quality donations.
I feel saddened by my decision to no longer visit the Wakefield Hospice shops, but they are certainly out of my price range
Even in charity shops I hope to receive a reasonable level of customer service.
