Road a shabby mess

ONCE again I am writing to complain about the condition of the road in Briar Grove.

I am sure the road was resurfaced in 2007 with very small loose

chippings.

This in now an utter mess, with most of the chippings gone by sticking in the soles of shoes and car tyres – these have trailed into the homes of residents damaging floors and

carpets.

Now the hot weather has arrived the melted tar, which is now the remaining road surface, is also being carried in on footwear.

Westerman Street has recently been resurfaced and it is a shabby mess. Further down Agbrigg Road, in Warwick Street, Fieldhouse Street, and Ibbotson Street, there are large holes caused by the floods of two years ago which haven't been repaired.

It is a year since I complained and was promised that Briar Grove would be resurfaced.

I have now received a reply from the highways department stating that Briar Grove does not feature in the current resurfacing programme however the full network is to be reassessed this year and it is likely that those carriageways which have deteriorated more quickly than others will be accelerated up the list.

There is one bad stretch of road which I use frequently from the old ABC cinema to Wilkinson's store in Kirkgate. May I ask, if any of your readers agree with me, that they put pen to paper.

John GK Wildie, Briar Grove
