Roof wasn't our problem
Every thinking person is disgusted about what has come out over MP's expenses, but I would like to comment on just one of our MP's claims.
I agree they are not too bad compared with some others but I am at a loss to understand the necessity for a new roof on their home.
It appears that it was bought in 2005 and I would have thought that before purchasing it, Mary Creagh MP would have taken the trouble to have it inspected by a qualified surveyor (I believe this must be done if a mortgage is required).
If it was so checked, surely the roof at that time would not have been in such a bad state as to warrant replacing in two years, surely a qualified surveyor would have reported it.
If in fact the roof, and in fact the whole house was not surveyed I cannot see that the taxpayer should pay for replacement roof.
After all these problems with MPs' expenses I feel many of us would like to see a breakdown of our councillors' expenses, but I can't see this happening.
