Change is just madness
Wakefield Council seems hell-bent on "modernising" Wakefield and anything that stands in the way must give way to pedestrian precincts and shopping malls.
Pedestrian precincts are fine and represent a wonderful playground for vandals. We do not need more shops and it is madness to keep on building more shopping malls like Trinity Walk.
There are already clear signs that the Ridings is having difficulty finding tenants for all its shops.
Trinity Walk may well attract shopkeepers who at present occupy old premises in the town.
When they move out, the older parts will be boarded up and become derelict.
As regards the new market near the bus station, how many existing stall holders will want to pay the higher rents?
If the council wants to benefit the local farming community, it should think carefully about what it charges.
Having lived in Wakefield for 38 years, I do not like the sweeping changes that are being made, nor the traffic problems arising there from – and this will probably go on for years.
