I FEEL compelled to reply to the letter by L Kirkpatrick headed 'No-one talks of Europe.'
No-one talks of Europe for the simple reason that much of what is happening is done behind the scenes and the majority of people have little or no idea about the nature of the European Union or what it
represents.
Mankind has reached a stage where
his whole ethos has to change if we are to survive. The mantra 'greed is good' has to be replaced by careful, constructive co-operation between nations and all sections of society, if the damage now being done can be ameliorated.
The EU, in spite of its title, was not brought into being with this intention. The overall plan is to draw the whole of Europe into a political system, not to promote a more efficient and equitable form of society, but to consolidate the interests of powerful trans-national private capital.
Plutocratic connivance is the name of the game where the will of the people is of little consequence.
Of the countries drawn into EU, it was argued that 18 had ratified the European constitution, now renamed the Lisbon Treaty. The people of those countries were not consulted, just as they have not been consulted on most EU decisions.
Factual criticism of the EU has nothing to do with being isolationist, xenophohic or little Englanders, but to expose the true nature of the EU. Accounting systems are in a mess, billions of euros are unaccounted for. Food mountains and wine lakes still exist, common agricultural and fishing policies have been disastrous.
The fragmentation of essential public services linked to EU directives is causing pandemonium. Thousands of EU rules, regulations and laws have been incorporated into British statute without our knowledge. It is impossible to enumerate here the welter of misdeeds emanating from Brussels. How anyone knowingly supports all this is beyond comprehension.
