I VISIT Thornes Park College on a regular basis at early evening and, every time we try to enter the park from Horbury Road, we are met with a stream of traffic trying to exit the park across the main road.

This, however, is nothing compared to the dangerous situation within the park itself.
Several cars and vans are parked either on the pavement or on the roadway outside the athletics stadium, doubtless because the users can't be bothered using the
car parks or because the grassed area at the side of the stadium is too muddy to drive across.
Haven't these athletes got the energy to walk down from the large car park at the college when the small car park is full?
I am surprised Wakefield Council allows cars to be parked on this narrow roadway, the pavement or the grass, especially on dark evenings in a very poorly lit area.
Or, are they waiting for a young child to be killed or seriously injured before taking action?
A few tons of gravel on the grassed area and a complete ban on vehicles parking in the road might alleviate the problem. It would also assist if enforcement personnel issued a few civil penalty notices. At the same time they could speak to those athletes who insist on blocking the disabled bays.
You only have to witness the selfish behaviour of some motorists, to realise that not only are they ruining the grassed areas, but, more importantly, are putting the lives of young children at risk.
I have witnessed two instances recently where children have stepped into the road because the pavement is blocked, only to be pulled back by an anxious parent.
Something should be done before it is too late.
