IN response to Mr Paul Adcock's reply to a letter about the changes to bus services, I live in Kitchenroyd Denby Dale, my local bus to Wakefield the 935 has been replaced by 435 which cut out Kitchenroyd altogether.

I now have to walk whatever the weather half a mile in one direction or one mile in the other direction to catch the bus. He says the changes are in reponse to to the closure of Bretton campus. I would like to point out that the new service takes t
he same route throught Bretton as before, stopping at the same stops as before. It also cuts out the main Wakefield road through Scissett. So, most parts of Wakefield road now have no bus to Wakefield at all. I have retired and do all my shopping, banking, etc, in Wakefield, as I have done all my life. Is this Arriva's reply to the government urging people to use public transport and leave cars at home?
Mrs Marjery Baines,
Wakefield Road, Kitchenroyd
Arriva's reply: Paul Adcock, operations director for Arriva Yorkshire, said: "I was sorry to learn that Mrs M Baines has been experiencing difficulties. I would like to explain that due to the reduction in usage following the closure of Bretton Campus we have had to withdraw service 448 and combine it with service 935. This gives a reduced frequency along the whole length of route between Wakefield, West Bretton and Denby Dale. We monitored the usage of these services on the section of route between Scissett and Denby Dale and these figures showed that the majority of passengers were boarding in Skelmanthorpe. In order to maintain the direct service between Denby Dale and Wakefield via Kichenroyd we are operating three journeys in each direction at peak times."
