I MUST agree with Mrs D Thorpe's letter (Express April 4) that the statue of Queen Victoria must stay where it is, visible for all to see, and not taken to some back-street alley, nor must it go back to the park to be vandalised again.
The council is wanting to replace it with a fountain, not to many people's liking.
May I suggest two options: a) to build the fountain around the statue, just like Trafalgar Square, as in London, or b) to replace the statue in the middle of the roundabout at the top of Marsh Way, facing onto the new bus station, for all to see. It would be a good landmark for people coming into Wakefield, also it would blend in with all the new buildings.
