I MUST agree with points raised in Bill Houlder's letter, "They don't have a clue", in the Express. Like him, I commute regularly on a certain route through Wakefield, but by car.
I have written to the highways department on two occasions about the traffic congestion at the lights at the bottom of Wood Street and Queen Street at rush hour, especially in term time, ie nose to tail. This occurs because drivers block the juncti
on for traffic turning right when the lights change.
I have been stuck in both places when the lights have changed several times and haven't moved. This causes frustration, and when eventually they get the chance, drivers resort to desperate measures and they then enter the junction at crazy angles.
I have suggested that yellow hatched boxes might be the answer because they have improved these problems in other locations.
In response to Keith Pickering's letter "Low price to pay for democracy", I live in Crigglestone and was the first in the queue to cast my vote. I was draped in a campaign flag from the First World War, which, as far as I was concerned, said it all. When my grandson asks me in years to come "what did you do about the Lisbon Treaty Grandma?" I can tell him with pride.
