As always... Your mother knows best
You can't mention Dee Williams in my mum's presence without her jumping in and telling you how much she loves her books.
She then starts moaning about modern stories by other authors and how they're simply thrown together and shoved on the shelf at Asda.
Well, a few months ago I wrote about my mum's favourite author and the next thing I know, I get a nice letter and a lovely book for my mum from Dee Williams. It made her day.
About three days later my mum made me read it. So, after reading it in a couple of sittings with my brew and biscuits, I finally have something to speak to my mum about when I phone her this afternoon!
Imagine the scene. It's the back end of 1935 in Rotherhithe. People are wearing fox furs and gloves, women won't be seen in public without hats and all the men are dressed like Flash Harry (as played by George Cole in the Trinians' films).
Our character is called Sue Reed and she works for Fred Hunt, a rich car dealer. Sue lives with her parents next door to her best mate Jane. Sue loves dancing and when the sun goes down the girls go to the local dance hall.
Out dancing one night Sue falls for the band's singer in a big way. Their romance is cut short as Cy moves on and Sue's life takes a downward turn.
The story is pleasant and heart-warming; it's true to life and full of hope throughout. Like every other story by Dee Williams, you won't be disappointed, and neither will your mum!
