Music Man set for yet another comeback

THE trombone may have been ditched to make way for the air guitar, but the old moves are making a comeback.

Brace yourselves – Black Lace are back again.

After they wooed Wakefield with the re-jigged version of Agadoo – the record everyone loves to hate – the 1980s band are re-releasing children's party classic Music Man.

And this time it's all for a good cause, Children in Need.

Black Lace were originally made up of Ossett and Alverthorpe songsters Colin Routh, Alan Barton and drummer Terry Dobson, but later joined by Leeds singer Dene Michael.

Dene and new boy Ian Robinson released a mambo feel Agadoo earlier this year, and it was so successful they decided to follow it up with Music Man.

Mr Michael, 52, said: "Last time everybody was so supportive – it was quite a surprise. After we were in the Express we were inundated with calls – we were even in The Observer, all the red-top tabloids and the Richard and Judy show. We're hoping that because it's all for Children in Need it will be even bigger."

The star-studded video will be premiered this evening on Children In Need, where the band will be seen performing at the Batley Frontier.

Joining the boys are their good mate and biggest fan Bruce Jones, aka Corrie's Les Battersby, Star Wars actor Kenny Baker and a host of acts that have appeared on Britain's Got Talent and Pop Idol.

Mr Michael, who penned the original in 1987, said: "We've brought the song bang-up-to-date with a dance music feel guaranteed to bring any party to life. It was all Bruce's idea.

"We hope that even those who hate us will buy the record to make money for Children In Need."

Mr Robinson, from Liverpool, said: "John and Edward on The X-Factor have shown that people love to be entertained by a bit of silliness.

"Even if you hate them, you can't deny they're entertaining and that's what Black Lace is all about."

Music Man will be released on Monday, December 7, but can be pre-ordered now from.7digital.com. All profits will go to Children In Need.
