Olympic fever!

OLYMPIC fever hit Wakefield this week as hundreds of youngsters descended on Thornes Park for this year's Minilympics.

We have a three-page picture special of pupils from more than 50 schools hurdling, hurtling and hopping their way around seven different activity circuits.

Activities included everything from space hopper races to hockey slaloms and basketball shoot-outs.

The day, organised by the Outwood Grange School Sports Partnership, was divided into two sessions, which both finished in true Olympic style with a parade of honour complete with flags, anthems, cheers and chants.

Rebecca Foster, sports development manager for the partnership, said: "It has been a fantastic day and it just keeps getting better every year that we do it.

"It is so great to see all the children being active and having such a fab time.

"We couldn't have asked for better weather either."
