Wakefield Hospice 10k
ATHLETES of all abilities and ages took part in the city's annual 10K race , and thousands turned out for the event to raise money for Wakefield Hospice.
First back across the finish line, in Thornes Park, was sole wheelchair racer Jason Gill, of West Cheshire Athletics Club, with a time of 20 minutes 53 seconds.
Former Euro cross-country star Andy Pearson marked his return to racing by winning the main race. The Longwood Harrier finished with a time of 31 minutes 25 seconds . And Helen Cross , of Pocklington Runners, with a time of 37 minutes and 57 seconds, was the first female to finish in her first outing at the hospice 10K.
Excited children accompanied by parents cheered as the 3K and 1K fun runs finished off the event.
The mayoress of Wakefield Coun Jacqui Williams was at the finish line to meet runners with a chequered flag. She said: "It is great to be here to support the hospice and the great work it does for the Wakefield district. And it is an event that brings runners from everywhere to the city."
The annual event is expected to raise about 20,000 for the Aberford Road Hospice.
