THE Bishop of Wakefield has made his first speech to the House of Lords.
The Rt Rev Stephen Platten's maiden speech expressed his wish that the international community might preserve peace in the 21st century.

Bishop Stephen took his place in the Lords last week when he was introduced as one of the 26 Lords Spiritual following the retirement of the Bishop of Carlisle, Rt Rev Graham Dow.

In his speech he talked about the three pillar concept of security involving a responsibility to prevent, a responsibility to react and a responsibility to rebuild and said there was a role here for civil society and churches.
