YOUTH crime in Wakefield will be tackled with the help of a share of £56m worth of government funding.
Wakefield will get £700,000 during the next three years as part of a nationwide crackdown on youth crime.
The money is designed to boost the efforts already being made by the council and help provide more after-school patrols, street-based youth workers and specialists to tackle young people involved in crime and disorder.
Normanton MP and childrens’ secretary of state Ed Balls said: “The vast majority of young people play an active, positive role in their communities and are a credit to their families, schools and themselves.
“But there is still a small minority of young people who cause problems in their communities and become involved in crime.”
The funding is also designed to expand family intervention projects and help provide more activities for young people.
