THERE was double the cause for celebration at Wakefield City High School when it picked up two awards at a prestigious ceremony.
The Eastmoor School collected the 'value added' awards from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT), at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts earlier this month.
It was ranked ninth out of 2,886 schools nationally, for its Jess
on Value Added (JVA) score, for the number of pupils achieving five A* to C GCSEs, and a third of the same number of schools, for its JVA score for the number of pupils achieving five A* to C GCSEs including English and maths.
The JVA shows how much 'value' a school has added to its students since they did their Key Stage 2 tests at primary school.
If a higher number of pupils gets five or more A* to C grades than predicted, the JVA will be higher.
More than 500 schools were invited to the celebratory dinner on April 24 in London, and 25 of them were presented with awards.
Alan Yellup, headteacher of Wakefield City High School, said: "We are extremely proud to have won the awards and were one of only two schools to be recognised twice on the night.
"It is an indication of excellent teaching, hard work by pupils and part of our continuous drive to raise attainment and achievement."
