VALUABLE firefighting resources were twice deployed to tackle bin fires in Wakefield city centre on Sunday morning.
Wakefield firefighters were first called to a blaze involving three four-foot square bins near the Wildcats lap dancing club on Cheapside. A crew of four dealt with the 4.20am incident and returned to the fire station.
But half-an-hour later they were called out again to another bin fire in the same area, near Faisals take away on Carter Street.
Crew manager Allan Senior, speaking after the two incidents, said: "The bins were completely destroyed. They were all melted down and there is always a lot of mess."
But firefighters believe such incidents tie them up when they could be dealing with real emergencies.
Mr Senior added: "It removes valuable resources away from where they are really needed. We do have really big incidents."
