FIVE people were stuck in a lift for more than an hour after it malfunctioned.
They were stuck between floors at the Zion Chapel appartment block on George Street in Wakefield city centre. Firefighters got the call at noon but the only way to free them was through a locked underground garage.
After the crew gained access they had to hand wind the hydraulic lift to free the four adults and a child.
Crew manager Peter Hemsworth said their spirits were quite high but they had been quite distressed at times during their long ordeal.
He said the lift had either malfunctioned electrically or hydraulically.
