A GRANT-making charity is launching a £1m challenge to help community groups and grass roots projects.
The Community Foundation for Wakefield has secured £450,000 from the government to give to groups across the district during the next three years.

The charity, which works with generous donors to give grants to local groups, will also secure a further £316,000 if it can find enough companies and individuals willing to provide match funding.

Simon Tutton, acting chief executive, wants the Community Foundation to raise a total of £1m over the next three years.

He said: "We need to get to £1m before the end of the three years. That requires building relationships with businesses and wealthy individuals.

"We already have one donor committed and are confident we will be able to reach our target and continue to support grassroots organisations around Wakefield."

Earlier this year Sunshine Tots, a parent and toddler group in Eastmoor, was given £900 to help support the group and buy new toys.

To donate or benefit from the foundation, log on to www.communityfoundation wakefield.co.uk or call Mr Tutton on 01924 306758.
