Highest paid top boss

FORMER Wakefield Council chief executive John Foster was the highest paid top boss among West Yorkshire's five authorities, according to new figures.

Mr Foster, who parted company with the council earlier this year, earned a total of £194,500 during the 2006-07 financial year according to the latest statistics from The Taxpayers' Alliance.

That figure was an 11.5 per cent rise on the previous year and put him well ahead of his town hall counterparts in Leeds, Bradford, Kirklees and Calderdale.

The Alliance obtained the figures under the Freedom of Information Act after sending requests to all UK councils. They take into account other incomes including salary, bonuses, benefits-in-kind and car allowances.
