RESIDENTS wanting to pay thanks to their community heroes have until Monday to cast their votes.
The public have been given the chance to vote for their favourite in the shortlist for the Wakefield Council Pride Awards' Citizen Award.

The nominees are lollipop lady Fiona Marchant, 42, who helps pupils from Normanton Common Primary School safely cross Castleford Road; Liz Bradley, the headteacher at Northfield Primary School, South Kirkby, who has made ground-breaking changes at the school since joining in 2005, and Valerie Eccles, 61, a lollipop lady at Poplar Avenue, in Airedale, who helps children from Airedale Infant School, Airedale Junior School and Townville Infant School.

The three candidates will be honoured for their service at a glittering awards ceremony at Cedar Court Hotel on April 4.

A panel of judges will also recognise council workers nominated in nine other categories.

Each winner will walk away with an engraved award and certificate.
