PARAMEDICS were hurt after restraining a patient who had swung a metal chair towards them, a court heard yesterday.
Two crew members suffered strains in a struggle with Tony Golec, who lashed out during an emergency call.
Paramedics were called to Golec’s Normanton flat on October 28 following a report he may have taken an overdose. But they found no signs he had.
Wakefield magistrates heard Golec supported his own body weight when lifted but his eyes remained closed and he did not answer questions.
His partner slapped him across the face and told him to stop wasting everyone’s time. After a row with his partner, Golec, 53, swung the ambulance crew’s own carry chair towards them at chest height. Members of the crew disarmed and restrained him but Golec struggled and tried to bite a paramedic on the hand.
A female ambulance worker suffered a strained right shoulder and a male colleague received a strained left wrist.
Golec, of Park Green, admitted affray. Kim Foley, mitigating, said Golec was trying to overcome alcohol dependency.
Golec was sentenced to 24 months of supervision and 12 months of alcohol treatment. He must pay £375 in compensation and £60 costs.
