Rugby players arrested after Wildcats match

Five top-flight rugby league players have been arrested after an alleged brawl in Leeds city centre in the early hours of today.


The players, from French team Catalans Dragons, are said to have been in a fight on Boar Lane yesterday which saw a further four people arrested.

The incident followed the Catalans' game in Wakefield against the Wildcats.

Police said CCTV operators reported the ongoing disturbance at 2.15am today.

Police attended the scene and nine men were arrested. Two men were taken to hospital for treatment to head injuries.

Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening. The men remain in police custody at this time being interviewed by detectives.

The Dragons Super League team, who play in Perpignan, lost out to the Wildcats 20-28 yesterday..
