Webster, of Dalefield Road, Normanton, was granted bail at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday and is due to stand trial in August.

The 37-year-old had a seven-year career with Wakefield Trinity and also played for Featherstone Rovers.

He has been a prop forward for amateur side Normanton Knights for the past two years. The club runs 12 teams from age six to adults.

During his time with the Knights, Webster also completed his prison officer training. He was based at Wakefield Jail, Love Lane.
