CONSTRUCTION workers will finally get their skates on to build a long-awaited park after more than four years of planning.
Work will start on the city's highly anticipated skate park on Monday.

The £370,000 state-of-the-art facility is being built near the athletics track in Thornes Park and is the result of years of dedicated hard work by Wakefield Skate.

Ged Capper, chairman of Wakefield Skate, a group set up to create a city skate park, said: "It has been a long, hard process but it's finally almost here. We've done some tests on the land structure and it seems perfect for the type of construction were putting in."

The bulk of the funding for the project came from a £250,000 Big Lottery grant in April last year. The rest was made up by WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Limited) and Wakefield Council, who are partners in the scheme.
