ARSONISTS torched a barn causing more than £30,000 worth of damage.
Barn owls and other wildlife were also killed in the blaze.
Firefighters from across the county were called to Balk Lane, in Netherton, on Monday afternoon just after 4pm.
Expensive farm machinery was also destroyed as well as hay stored for animal feed.
It was the second arson attack on the building which was also home to hedgehogs and rabbits.
Farmer Keith Hensby, 64, said: “The barn was burn down completely – it’s a write off.
“The owls were killed in their nesting boxes, the hedgehogs were burnt alive and rabbits were running around with burnt paws.
“It was set on fire about a month ago but the damage wasn’t as bad.”
Fire crews from Ossett, Wakefield, Dewsbury, Hunslet, Pontefract, Stanningley and Castleford were all involved in fighting the blaze.
Detectives are now hunting the arsonists.
