‘As you were’ for council’s new cabinet

Wakefield Council leader Peter Box has announced his cabinet following the local council election results.

Coun Box will keep his cabinet members the same but has changes some of his assistants.

The cabinet is as follows:

Coun Denise Jeffery - deputy leader and economic growth and skills

Coun David Dagger - transport and highways

Coun Les Shaw - culture, leisure and sport

Coun Pat Garbutt - adults and health

Coun Olivia Rowley - children and young people

Coun Maureen Cummings - environment and communities

Coun Graham Stokes - corporate performance

Proposed cabinet assistants are as follows:

Coun Jack Hemingway - economic growth and skills

Coun Matthew Morley - transport and highways

Coun Jacquie Speight - culture, leisure and sport

Coun Michelle Collins - adults and health

Coun George Ayre - children and young people

Coun Richard Forster - environment and communities

Coun Martyn Johnson - corporate performance.

The new cabinet will be formally approved by full Council at the mayor-making and annual council meeting on Thursday, May, 21.

Coun Box said: “We continue to face tough times and my cabinet and I will meet these challenges head on.

“I am confident that this team of cabinet members and assistants has the right blend of knowledge and experience to serve the district .”
