Live music and games will draw people to Wakefield Market today, in a celebration of its fifth birthday.
There will be face painting, body art, balloon modelling, a tombola and a charity cake sale at the Union Street market.
The event is celebrating five years since it relocated.
Coun David Dagger, cabinet member with responsibility for markets, said: “Wakefield has a fantastic market, with friendly traders offering shoppers a warm welcome and selling a variety of products at prices that beat the high street.
“If you want to buy local then Wakefield Market is a great place to start. Join in the market’s birthday celebrations to see what it has to offer.”
Traders will also be running special offers throughout the day. Yvonne Garcia, who runs the Curtain and Blind Gallery at the market, said she was one of several traders to have long family histories of trading at Wakefield.
And she said anybody who brings a cutting of this article will get £5 to spend at her stall until the end of August.
Saturday’s indoor market runs until 5pm, and the outdoor market until 4pm.
