The Bishop of Wakefield, the Right Reverent Stephen Platten, will be making a special appearance at the Wildcats’ game on Sunday.

Parishes across the diocese have given more than £2,500 to the Bishop’s chosen charity, the Rugby League Benevolent Fund, Try Assist which helps players who have been seriously injured on the pitch.

And Bishop Stephen will meet with former players and their families who have benefited from Try Assist before the Wildcats’ match against Huddersfield Giants at the John Smith Stadium.

Bishop Platten said: “I am constantly amazed at the generosity of the people of our diocese in supporting the annual Lent appeal and this year is no exception.

“I am sure this donation will help bring life-long support and help to those rugby players who suffer devastating injuries on the pitch playing a game which – for many of us in this part of the country – is woven inextricably in our lives and livelihoods.”
