A TOP engineering firm put its cutting-edge expertise to good use on a smaller scale project than usual – fixing the Bishop of Wakefield’s wooden staff.
The Rt Rev Stephen Platten was given a guided tour of Wakefield’s award-winning Group Rhodes after the company mended his broken staff for free.
Michael Clements, who has worked since 1961 at the Belle Vue firm, fixed the tip of the staff
The company has also made items for Wakefield Cathedral including a font.
Bishop Stephen met Group Rhodes chairman Ian Ridgway and was told of the firm’s latest achievements which was awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise and runs a thriving apprentice scheme.
Bishop Stephen said: “Group Rhodes is very good news for this region. The high-tech heavy engineering work in which it is now engaged is pioneering and increasing our export potential.
“Wakefield should be very proud to be the base for such enterprising industry and I am most grateful for their expertise.”
